Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) Events

The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur in Hebrew) was the only day of the year when the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies of the temple to make atonement for the sins of the nation (Leviticus 16:29-43).

The Day of Atonement is the tenth day of the seventh biblical month, and a day to rest from our daily work and fast (Leviticus 23:26-32). On this day we spend extended time in prayer, and reflect on the fact that Jesus (Yeshua) is our High Priest (Hebrews 4:14).

The ten days from the Day of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement are traditionally called the “Days of Awe”, a period of self-reflection, repentance, and making peace with others.
